Under Mohammed Kaif's captaincy, the Under-19 Indian side successfully won the 2000 Youth World Cup.
According to the Times of India, as of July 2005, he is one of only five cricketers from Uttar Pradesh to have made it to the national side.
Captained the national ODI team in the 2005-06 Challenger Trophy in the absence of regular captain Rahul Dravid.
